Brightening Your Inner Light: Titus 1
**NOTE: This post is the second and last of a two-part series. This one is for the guys, but if you’re a girl, I encourage you to read it anyway!
It may help you better understand how a guy of Christ should act.**
~
Titus 1. It’s not as popular as it’s female counterpart, but it’s important just the same!
Also, Titus 1 is very direct in it’s message.
Although it was initially written to instruct men on how to be a good bishop, it is also the very picture of how all Christian guys should act.
“(7) For a bishop as God’s steward must be blameless, not arrogant, not irritable, not a drunkard, not aggressive, not greedy for sordid gain,”
Pretty straightforward, right? A guy of God is innocent, confident but not cocky, good-tempered, does not drink excessively, is gentle-mannered towards all, and does not wish for things that will not truly benefit himself and others.
“(8) but hospitable, a lover of goodness, temperate, just, holy, and self-controlled,”
These guys are kind-hearted and generous. They love everything that is good, and all that directs them closer to God. They are level-headed, act justly, and actively seek a lifestyle that honors their Lord. They practice self-control.
“(9) holding fast to the true message as taught so that he will be able both to exhort with sound doctrine and to refute opponents.”
In addition to all the previous things, guys who truly live their life for Christ know that the truths and message they were taught are very important…and they make it one of their top priorities to continue to grow in their faith, by reading the Bible and studying the beliefs of their religion. They put what they learn to practice in their every-day life. Last of all, they are not afraid to use what they have learned to stand up for themselves and their beliefs.
In closing, if you are a guy and trying to live this way, good job, and keep it up! Sincerely trying is a great first step. Your light will continue to get brighter, as you grow into Christian manhood.
Girls, look for a guy such as described above. Titus 1 boys will make the best boyfriends (and possibly husband, if that’s God’s plan for you,) because they will both respect you, and help you grow closer to God.
Hi Alexis-
Nicely written and so beautifully put !!! I really think you are setting a great example for girls, boys, men and women by being one of Gods disciples. You are putting information out there that we need to hear, think about and do. You are truly shining your light for all to see and I am SO proud to call you my niece and goddaughter.
